Time to find forever

You know the phrase 'If you love someone, set them free'? This keeps running through my head at the moment.

Hopeful beginnings

Ushakanta came to us from Russia in October 2020. I was so nervous. A very green breeder importing cats from Russia and Belarus was a leap of faith. He was special though and worth the risk. From the moment he stepped out of his carrier it was love.

Finding things tricky

Kanta has always been a complete gentleman and a real hit with the ladies. Despite this he never managed to actually 'seal the deal' with any of my girls. At first I thought... well wine and dining is romantic... bless him. But as time ticked on and he celebrated his second birthday I started to become concerned.

Around the same time I started thinking more and more about HCM screening. (Now that's a thorny issue that divides breeders and if I'm brave enough I'll write a blog on that another day). I decided that I wanted to screen all my breeding cats and trotted off to Cheshire Cardiology, credit card and coffee in hand.

The sad news

It was devastating to learn that Kanta was positive for HCM. I booked him straight in for his castration as it's important to do all we can to reduce the risk of passing HCM to future generations of Bengals. His heart doesn't seem to be affecting him at the moment but his future is now uncertain. Fully recovered from his op my thoughts have turned to how to make the rest of his life the best it can be.

Deciding to rehome

When we take cats into our home we commit to giving them the best life we possibly can. Sometimes that means facing the fact that, when circumstances change, we believe another home would be able to give our babies more than we could. It's hard. We are all very attached to Kanta, but he has to come first. Now that he has been neutered I think Kanta deserves a quieter, less hormonally charged home.

A heart of gold

I write this blog in the hope that it is read by a wonderful human ready to give Kanta the loving home, attention and care he deserves. So if you're in the market for a stunning Bengal boy with a dodgy ticker and boundless love to give please get in touch to learn more.
